My name is Robyn Markland, i am in Denver Colorado, and as of 2008, 38 years old. I grew up in Hawaii, but i have been in Colorado since 1988.
I have always been a BMX fan, i raced BMX when i was a kid, and raced mountain bikes in the college years. My first bike was a Webco Replica, and shortly thereafter, a white SE Racing PK Ripper full tilt dream supreme.
I sold that PK, the full Mike Buff setup with Z Rims, sweet Profile 2nd gens, ACS seat and post, Zeronine plate, etc. for all of $100 to some kid at the neighborhood park in Kaimuki back in 1986 or so. Doh!
I picked up a mid school PK (in white, shown in my photo gallery, and still on hand) and mid school Robinson 24" cruiser (also still on hand and in gallery) in the early mid 90's, being very casually into Vintage BMX nostalgia, but it has gotten pretty serious in the last few years.
I am not a super stickler for era-correctness. There are some collectors that will spend MUCHO bucks, and wait MUCHO years, for the right era-correct rear hub and seatpost to come along, but that is not me.
I build to ride and please my eye, and while i would like to stay correct on a lot of stuff, i can also do the retro style stuff, and at least give it a vintage flavor. I love my Kappa BMX stuff, and i love stuff like my DH mountain bike and new school GT Ultrabox 24" cruiser, both retroed out with Race Inc decals. I like the look, LOVE how those ride, and that is that.
More power to the purists, but i collect and build for my own riding and viewing enjoyment : )
I am a co-owner of Pro Exotics, along with Chad Brown. We have a number of business interests, but our primary focus is reptile breeding and Infrared Temp Guns (Infrared Thermometers). PE is in its 15th year, and it is a fantastic, fulfilling, rewarding career.
I married a super stone cold fox named Nicci in 2001, she also works at PE, lucky me! Nicci doesn't sweat me too much on the bike stuff, and she even goes downhilling at spots like Winter Park in the summers. We did a really great bike tour of White Rim in Moab for the summer of 2006. Rim Tours does a car supported group tour that is beginner/intermediate on skills, about 100 miles over 4 days, super well worth it!
Thanks to Mike Buff, RL Osborn, Bob Osborn and BMX Action for kicking off a lifetime of biking fun!
